Barbara Treacy is a Deputy Center Director in EDC’s Division of Applied Research and Innovation where she directs several online learning projects including EdTech Leaders Online, a national capacity-building online professional development program for state departments of education, school districts, regional education service providers and teacher training institutions, with participating organizations in over 35 states.
Since the inception of EdTech Leaders Online in the fall 2000, Barbara has led teams of curriculum developers, online facilitators, instructional designers and online specialists to provide graduate level training programs in online learning, a catalogue of over 50 online workshops in specific K-12 subject areas and grade levels, and a national forum for online specialists implementing local online programs.
Barbara also directs EDC’s collaboration with E-Learning for Educators, an eight state consortium led by Alabama Public Television and funded by the US Department of Education, to establish state-wide online professional development programs. EDC is providing online professional development training through EdTech Leaders Online, consulting on online professional development planning and implementation, and developing of a series of model online professional development workshops to meet high-priority state needs. Barbara supports several other online projects at EDC including co-developing a leadership training program for the State Educational Technology Director’s Association (SETDA).
Barbara has taught at both the college and high school level, including serving as a math instructor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and coordinating a technology integration project for an inner-city Boston high school. Barbara holds a Bachelors degree from Harvard University and a Masters in Technology in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
